  1. Your link to the Carter BBD series parts manual does not work. Is the Carter P/N 75-2231 metering rod available? Do they have a history of wearing? If so can it all be compensated for by reducing the jet size. My BBD 8274S has gotten to where it is running very rich. My son and I have gone through it a couple of times now and can find nothing wrong other than we possibly need to install new jets. Just wondering if it should have/need new metering rods also. Carb has ~230,000 miles of use on it. It has been overhauled (more like cleaned) before but never had new jets installed.

    • Thanks for letting me know about the link. That should work now.

I doubt you will find new metering rods for the BBD, so changing the main jet is your choice. Use the spark plug color as your guide for correct jet sizes. Anything else could ruin your engine. Assuming your carburetor is clean and not flooding (that is a big assumption), check your plugs, which should be gray colored. Black means too much fuel. Reduce your jet size by 1 – 2 sizes and test again.

  2. IF JET IS LITTLE BIGGER THAN 5/64 IN INSIDE DIAMETER WHAT IS ITS SIZE? ON MY JET IT IS STAMPED 390 I AM WANTING TO LEAN IT OUT WHICH I THINK MEANS GO SMALLER WHERE DO I START ON WHAT YOU SELL PLEASE HELP

  3. i have a 1956 plymouth belvedere with the 277cu. in. P29 engine which has the carter 2409S 4bb carb. i am looking for the manual and also the refurb kit.
    can you help?

    best regards
    peter
